MY RATING

I liked it.

I enjoyed this fourth opus in the Hearts series which only keep growing and I’m grateful for that! I enjoyed Lee and Karla story but can’t honestly say this one stole my heart. It was a nice slow burning forbidden romance and enjoyed Lee Cross relentless tries to wear Karla down.

My Review

Hearts_of_Blue_alleskelle_cast2

It’s not a secret that LH Cosway is one of my favorite author. While I’m fairly new to the romance book world, I’ve read quite a few books these past 3 years and I just know what works for me or not now, more over, I know when I open a book and it’s going to be special.

When I first read Miss Cosway, I instantly felt the difference between your everyday romance story and hers.

I often said reading her was like reading fantasy, only it really is a contemporary novel. She makes me dream and wonder and has this ability to make me lose myself in her books. So much creativity.

To say that I was anticipating Hearts of Blue is an understatement. I’ve been dying to get my hands on it, the promising story of Karla, fierce London police officer and Lee, the bad boy. We met them both in King of Hearts, the previous book in this “Hearts” series.

An opposite attracts romance trope but Cosway’ style.

Lee is an outlaw, his mom passed away when he was pretty young and he had no choice—or maybe poor choices— but to accept to get his hands dirty to keep and raise his brothers with him. He did what he had to do to survive, it was a mean to and end, but you can tell he and his brothers are good guys through and through.

Karla is the daughter of a London’s retired Police SuperIntendent. She is Blue Blood despite her claims that she joined the forces for her own reasons.

Their romance was definitely a slow burn, Lee poking and teasing her, trying to get her to cave and get her on a date. Karla did her best to resist him and I truly enjoyed their bantering sessions. Their romance story being an obviously forbidden one, it only added to the illicit feel of their stolen encounters. And let’s talk a little about those encounters. SO HOT.

I truly enjoyed Lee character’s the most. I’m going to be honest as ever and say that I would have preferred to read this book from his point of view. He definitely made the book for me. Maybe that would have been the easy and obvious thing to do, and I’m left to wonder why LH Cosway chose to narrate the book through Karla.

I liked Karla just okay as a character. But she more than once got on my nerves for being such an idealist. Or maybe was it the fact that she kept tip-toeing and felt so unsure about her feelings for Lee.

As a whole I really enjoyed Hearts of Blue, I know I shouldn’t compare books, but I’m forced to notice that I didn’t love it as much as I did the previous books in this series. Or any of LH Cosway’s books for that matters.

I’m so used of her books being SO different, that I felt a little let down on my way up to cloud nine. I enjoyed it but I didn’t find what makes me love this author more than another with Hearts of Blue.

As I’m saying this, I must sound disappointed to you, maybe a little, but I’m having HUGE hopes about the future with LH Cosway.

She truly made me cry with the scene with Stu at the end of the book. And I’m truly looking forward to read HIM.

Excerpt

“How did you know where I lived?”

 “What?”

“The other week you came by my house. How did you know where I lived?”

I tried to think of the least embarrassing answer, because the truth was that I’d gone snooping. “All of your brothers have a record, Lee. Not to mention Stu served six months in Feltham as a young offender. Your address is in the system.”

“Yeah, but you went looking, didn’t you?” His smile returned.

“That’s correct. I went looking right after I caught your brother trying to steal someone’s car,” I told him pointedly.

He quirked an eyebrow like he didn’t believe me. “You’re that quick, huh?”

My throat grew dry. “All it takes is a call to dispatch.”

His chest rubbed off mine, and even through my stab vest I could feel it. “And how did you recognise Trevor? You’d never met him before.”

Christ, was this an interrogation? “He has your eyes,” I blurted without thinking.

This gave Lee pause, and a long silence fell between us, his gaze searching mine. “That’s a whole lot of attention to pay to someone you don’t want to know,” he said finally, throwing my own words back at me, the ones I’d spoken the first time we met.

“Lee,” I pleaded, desperately needing him to back off. “You’re too young for me.”

“Karla, I’m perfect for you,” he countered right before his mouth dipped in and his lips brushed lightly across mine. It was hardly anything, and yet, every nerve-ending in my body came alive. Just as his mouth was about to descend on mine again, I dug my heel into his ankle. He grunted and reared away, leaving me enough space to get by him. Unfortunately, I didn’t get very far. I’d barely taken three steps when Lee caught hold of my arm and pulled me to him, my back to his front.

“What you just did, not advisable,” he breathed harshly.

There was no mistaking the threat in his voice and a shiver ran through me. Gone was the playful flirtation, and I was reminded once more that this man was bad news
