Walker Lund never expected that a chance at love would hit him right on the mouth. Since the moment his brother decided to settle down, Walker has been dodging his family’s hopes that he’ll do the same. He’s never been interested in following in anyone’s footsteps. I love it when I start a book without any expectations and end up devouring it in one sitting!
I didn’t know what to expect about this new contemporary by Lorelei James. I haven’t read much of her work except for a handful of her Blacktop Cowboys series but the few I’ve read I enjoyed her writing very much and have good memories of sizzling chemistry and lovable characters.
Just What I Needed is not exception to the above and is the sort of story that grips you right in if you’re in the mood for a light and fun romance.
I could identify myself with the heroine a lot and I think that’s what won me over.
The book starts on a lovely meet cute, told in the heroine’s POV and let me tell you that’s something I love in my books, feeling like the heroine is talking to me. I loved her right away, her sass, her little streak of crazy talk was enough to tell me I was going to enjoy this book. And I did, very much so.
Trinity Carlson is a young artist who’s had a bad day. So what’s a girl to do on a shittiest day? She has drinks with her best friend, naturally! Well that is until the best friend gets herself picked up by a gorgeous Irish rugbyman, I mean who could blame her for abandoning Trinity to her crappy margarita?
Good Lord. There was no way to miss him with that massively tall body. And check out that gorgeous beard. He angled his head giving me a killer view of his strong jawline and high cheekbones. Oh hell yrah. That was some serious sexy right there—a guy confident enough to pull off a man bun.
Enters the scene an apparition. Hmm hmm. Walker Lund. A contemporary viking sporting both a bear and a man-bun. Be still my heart.
Trinity herself feeling so enthralled she’s compelled to kiss the guy, a complete stranger! But that could be the margaritas doing. Right?
Their meeting was downright cute and I just loved the banter between them. Lorelei James really carved here a great set of characters, both very attaching, both unique and I fell under the charm of the crazy overbearing Lund Family. Selka, the mother and maybe the most overbearing of all, is just the cherry on top in this story, with her approximative English and her continuous mix ups of American expression, she was hilarious and had me laugh out loud more than once! I could really hear her strong Sweden accent through the pages.
“I don’t get men’s fascination with all things ball related.”
“I could try to explain it to you but I don’t know if a conversation about my balls is appropriate since we just met.”
Now let’s talk about what’s really of interest in this story… Yes, the Northern Viking, Walker Lund. That man was just perfection. Gorgeousness and sex appeal aside, he was the perfect balance of alpha and beta male. Or dare I say a patient alpha male, does such a thing exist?
If I saw her bare ass sashaying up the stairs, I’d hike her hips into the aie and slam into her right there.
His patience and support toward Trinity were close to devotion and the strikes of possessiveness touch from insanity but oh how I loved his demonstrations of love.
Just What I Needed was effectively just that. The perfect balance between love and lust, a slow burn romance, charming secondary characters, and sizzling chemistry between 2 characters. I could not put it down once I started and felt like it was nearly not enough when I reached the end of the book.
“I slammed the door shut and we fell into a dark void where we were nothing but sighs and moans, heated skin and frantic movements.”
Just what I Needed is book 2 in the “What I Need” series and can be read as a standalone. I’ve yet to read the first book, but having met the Lund family, I won’t be waiting too long before setting my sights on another Lund brother or cousin… Those modern Vikings are highly addictive!
