MY RATING

Temporary was the perfect easy going read, high on chemistry, low on angst with a nice touch of steam and a pinch of drama.

Book Infos

The most beautiful man I’ve ever seen is the same one who can ruin everything.
The first time I lay eyes on Callan Walker, I know he’ll be trouble. With his smug grin, hot Aussie accent and thousand dollar shoes, he’s just the kind of rich guy who always gets what he wants.
And he wants two things: a night of sin, and my cooperation as he outmaneuvers his powerful mother to take control of his uncle’s estate.

I can’t afford either one. I’m the only thing standing between my little sister and the foster care system. He may have money and charm on his side, but I have something even more powerful — pure desperation. This temp job at his mother’s company can become a full time job for me. It has to.

But when Callan’s eyes rake over my body, sometimes I forget my obligations. His piercing gaze finds the fun, optimistic girl I used to be and not the tired person I’ve become.

And it works–if only for a moment. Our night together was a mistake. I can’t afford to get sucked into his high-powered family’s treachery. But the closer I get to Callan, the more layers I find beneath those expensive clothes. Though I can’t forget this is temporary. He’s temporary. I have too much to lose.

Too bad my foolish heart didn’t get the memo…

My Review

I was so curious about this collaboration between two authors I adore and it did not disappoint!

Rich and obnoxious Aussie playboy Callan Walker makes it very difficult for struggling but tenacious New Yorker temp, Grace Kerrington to keep her job!
Except… There is more to Callan Walker than his partying ways and Grace Kerrington will have to try her damnedest to resist him and his mischievous antics.

I will not get naked with Callan Walker during business hours. I will not get naked with Callan Walker during business hours.

Temporary was the perfect easy going read, high on chemistry, low on angst with a nice touch of steam and a pinch of drama.

I knew from the start that I would enjoy Temporary, the premise of a hate to love you trope is always sign of a good time in my romance books and I can safely and gladly say this : the slow burn between Grace and Callan was amazing!

Filled with repressed feelings, lust and resentment, I enjoyed every banter and dialogue between them, it felt genuine, sincere and I was especially receptive to their brand of humor.

Throughout the first half of the book, I felt as if I was that little red devil perched on Grace‘s shoulder, whispering dirty thoughts and pushing her to act on her impulses, responsibilities be damned! The attraction between her and Callan was evident and it felt inevitable for them to act on their desires.

No flirting, no touching, no eye-fucking, no dirty-talk between nine and five. And that includes lunch.

I loved Grace! She was persistent and opinionated—my kind of woman— and although struggling to keep her head afloat, take care of her minor sister, she still kept some sparks and sass.

Callan’s character was complex and multi layered, presented as your typical in your face obnoxious hottie, he revealed himself to be a great hero. We’ll forgive him his asshole ways and the few times he toyed with Grace‘s feelings to get to his means. Especially after witnessing the surges of protectiveness and care for Grace and her sister.

A special note about Olivia, Grace’s sister {sistah}, she was a delight to read! Amusing, charming, annoying, and everything in between, she was your typical teenager portrayed to perfection! Major crush for this secondary character!

Can we say about a book that it’s a grower, I wonder {wondah}?

Now comes the time I must admit, it took me a moment to get into the book. Or more precisely it took me some time to feel a connection to both main characters. Strangely I started getting attached when their antagonism reached its peak then came the end of the book I was sad it was already over!

Another thing preventing a 5 stars rating for this book was the villain of the story. The evil mother from Oz, omnipresent and clouding everyone happiness ‘just because’  felt a bit overdone to me and coming from nowhere.

All in all Temporary was very pleasant, the indisputable chemistry between Grace and Callan, the engaging dialogues and humor, the slow burn romance and acts of kindness of the supposed asshole hero, more than made it up for a late start.
